Do braces hurt or interfere?

Getting them on doesn't hurt, but your teeth and mouth will be sore afterwards.Depending on how sensitive you are to pain, you may or may not feel some discomfort for a couple of days around your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth, as they get used to your new braces. The orthodontist may prescribe you mild pain killers to alleviate the pain & some gel for the irritation on the lips & cheeks.

Playing an instrument or a contact sport may require some adjustment when you first get your braces, but wearing braces will not stop you from participating in any of your school activities. If you play a contact sport, it is recommended that you wear a mouth-guard to protect your braces or appliance.
